Microsoft’s Next Lumia Smartphone Leaks Out

Last week Microsoft confirmed plans to ditch Nokia branding on upcoming Lumia smartphones, and today we’re getting a first look at the company’s next handset. TheMicrosoft Lumia device recently leaked out on Chinese social network Weibo after passing through the TENAA (China’s version of the FCC), revealing what looks to be a mid-range plastic handset.

The Microsoft branding seen here matches up perfectly with the official logo shared by the company. The device, which is referred to by its model number RM-1090, also offers dual-SIM support, suggesting it could launch in emerging markets like China or India. It also appears to be a slightly larger version of the budget-friendly Lumia 530 with a similar plastic design.

Microsoft has put a big emphasis on the low-cost market since acquiring Nokia, releasing a string of cheap to mid-range devices intended to compete more with Android than Apple. The most recent high-end Windows Phone on the market is still the HTC One (M8) for Windows, and there’s still no indication that a flagship Lumia is set to replace it anytime soon.

In the meantime, Microsoft seems focused on capturing a larger chunk of the low-end market with this latest leaked device. We’re guessing RM-1090 will launch in time for the holiday shopping season, though we wouldn’t expect a big launch event for what looks like a pretty mid-range phone.
